Washing machine water coming into laundry tub
Hi all! I recently got a plumber to install a new laundry tub and faucet. Ever since this was done, when I run the washing machine, the water is coming into the tub up through the drain, then draining out afterwards. This never happened with the old laundry tub. It's a bit annoying because I can't keep clothes to be washed in the tub (they get wet and smell!), and I'm leary of putting the stopper in for the tub, just in case the water would overflow to someplace less desirable, say the floor! Any ideas? I'm going to call the company back but who knows whether they'll give me an honest answer - although I hope they will! Thanks!

    Is the newer tub deeper?

Check the plumbing connections under the wash tub. Chances are that the plumber connected the washing machine drain stack to the washtub drain with a standard tee, above the trap. He should have used a sanitary tee. If he didn't, that's probably the problem.

The difference is that a sanitary tee will direct the flow of water from your washing machine drain stack DOWN the trap and into the sewer. Using a regular tee will result in the water pushing both up and down. Not good.
