    Transfer Switch & Generator Compatibilty
I have installed a manual transfer switch in my home. It says in the instructions to make sure the neutral is un-bonded to the generator. My Generator has a bonded neutral to the frame. What can I do to make the switch and the Generator compatible? Thanks

When the generator is connected to the house, the bond should be removed. i.e. No Neutral to generator frame connection.

When it's operating as a stand-alone generator, it should be present. Neutral at generator is connected to the generator frame.

See what the instructions say. You might have to move a wire or remove a jumper.

Before I answer I need to know if the transfer switch will switch the neutral or will the neutral be solidly connected through the transfer switch.

The arrangement of the transfer switch will dictate if the neutral and equipment ground at the genset needs to be disconnected or not.

Well, seems I am not getting answers to my question, so I will clarify.

If the transfer switch does not open the neutral, which is the most popular, the neutral and ground bonding at the generator must be disconnected, and a separate equipment grounding conductor installed and connect to the frame of the generator and at the frame of the transfer switch.

If the transfer switch does switch, or open, the neutral, the neutral and ground at the generator must remain, and a grounding electrode (ground rod) must be installed and connect to the neutral.
