    Incorrectly overpaid!
    Hi,

I have received a payment in my bank account today from o2 for the amount of £1194. I was due £194. It has taken me since March this year for them to pay back the money they owed me and now they have overpaid me! I took out a 12 month contract with them that I cancelled yet they still continued to charge me. Do I have to pay this back? I'm very tempted to spend it with all the grief they have caused me just do not want to get in trouble for this later on. Can anybody help?

If the money was given in error, then it is not yours to spend, you should probably notify them of this oversight.

(sorry, I would want to keep it too if they had given me grief).

Leave it in your account but don't touch it for at least 6 months. They may realize the error and debit your account.

Go down to their offices and ask for a manager to explain why this was done, it might just be that they are compensating the earlier damage. Hopefully;)

I have since received a receipt from O2 confirming that they have paid the amount into my account in respect of a refund the letter had the amount of £1194 on it. A day later I got a final reminder from O2 despite having no previous reminder saying that if I do nt pay them £576.01 (?) they will begin legal preedings against me. The letter also states that they have cut off my phone and I will be required to pay a reconnection fee. This is the phone that I cancelled in the first place and they are now telling me have only disconnected it as of yesterday and I need to pay a reconnection fee for the flipping phone I WANTED cut off in the first place!! Meant to say in original question that I got phone contract in Oct 2005 for 12 months and noticed in March 2007 that were still charging me I didn't get the contract and immediately cancel it. If any one can help please let me know this is driving me insane!! 1

Depends on the laws in your country but in the USA you can't keep it, so don't spend it. Keep a detailed record of who you talk to and go as high up in the company as you have to, to get this resolved. Keep asking to speak to someone higher up until you get someone who can resolve your issue.
