    Hamster weight loss/laziness
My hamster is a golden hamster who is only 1 year old. He is not eating at all, including treats. He is not running in his wheel and is spending most of his time laying around ALL the time. How do I take his temperature? What should I do?

Personally if he isn't eating anything including treats then I would take him straight the vets,
From what you say it def sounds like there is something the matter,

As hamsters are hoarders have you checked his hidey holes to see if his food is their or if it has gone as he may have built a store up over a few days and sat and ate them at night time..

However lack of exercise does not sound right as hamsters are very active,
I really do think you should go the vets with him

Im sorry but I can't afford to go to the vets and he is bleeding where he urinates. He doessn,t bleed as much when he is cold cmpared to when he is hot. His blood is starting to turn into a liquidy orange tint color. He walks in his and I got a food dish to put down on the first floor because his food is usually on the third floor. He nibbles food but doesn't nibble very much are there any diseases that you know of currently that might have all the symptons he is having. PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE help.

Now I'm no vet but it does sound like either a very serious infection or internal bleeding,

Is the hamster definitely a male?? If you are not sure of the sex then is it in with any other hamsters?

I would imagine a vet would see him without charging too much and it may be a case of prescribing baytril (can only be prescribed by the vet) or depending on what it is he may have to be put out of his misery, hamsters usually don't cost too much to treat, and if he is bleeding then obviously he is in pain and needs sorting out! All the people in the world won't be able to help you , you need a vets opinion but for how long he has been ill there is def something wrong with the little guy,
Try ringing the vets up and asking for their opinion and advice , tell them you have no money and can't afford treatment, some vets may treat him for free, especially as medication for a hamster that weighs only a couple of ounces at most would not cost much at all...
But at best please give them a ring and ask for advice,!

I'll update later. Are there any vets that you recommend that I should go to. Do you have a hamster? Are there any places you know that will take him for free. He is def a male and not with any others because fight with each other until death. Could it be kidney failure.

Hi, I don't know about the vets as I don't know what country you are in, where abouts if you are in the same country etc, but if you ring up most vets will give you some free advice and all vets will let you know a rough cost of the treatment if you ask them and they seem to think they know what is wrong,

And when you get their if you sit their crying with a small animal a lot of the vets feel sorry for you or will give you a discount anyway, I am in united kingdom and my local vets are called charters which are very good with small animals.. if you have one local they may be able to help you with advice..

Hope all has gone well with him,
    Katie

Hi it sounds like your poor hamster isn't doing to well are you sure it's a male? Because females have periods and leave small discharges but I don't think its blood they leave I'm not sure.
My hamster once left a small discharge of orange stuff I think it was diorehha because of what he ate it was sum new treat and he ate tu much of it but that was ages agggoo.

Uno the pdsa is a animal vet that is a charity and charge you free for any animal treatment BUT you have to be unemployed (adult) because if your unemployed you don't earn money so that you can't afford treatment for your animal but you need proof your unemployed!

Please get back to me saying how your hammys doing! Xx

I think it might be a bladder stone, if he is bleeding when he urinates.
