Hi I have the hives and have a few questions cause I've never had them before,:

1. is there anything that helps you to not itch while you sleep?

2. How long does it last?

3. Should I go to school with hives?

4. What could be causing my hives?

Hello hello! You poor thing. I suffer from hives at times as well. You are experiencing an allergy to something. The only way you will know what you are allergic to is to get tested by a doctor. At this time of year, if you have ragweed blooming in your area, that is the most likely culprit. Take some Benadryl before you go to sleep. You can buy it over the counter. It will help stop the itching and the hives will disappear. It will make you drowsy because it has antihistamine in it so it is best not to take it during the day if you have to go to school. You should be able to go to school without any problems. The nurse may even have some Benadryl or some calamine lotion to help with the itchiness for today.

So, talk to your parents about getting some Benadryl for you and about making an appointment with an allergist. If you have an allergy to food or something else that you can control in your environment, you can avoid the thing that triggers the allergy & the hives that can come with it.

I am so sorry you are itching so bad sweetie. I know it's awful.

Let me ask though. Are these hives or possibly chickenpox?

If it's hives it is most likely caused by an allergy and you can go to school. If it is chickenpox you must wait until it is almost gone before returning to school.

For the itching... Benadryl, oatmeal baths, Calamine lotion.

I went to he docter a few days ago and he gave me benadryl and antihestime but it isn't working too well

My daughter broke out in a HORRIBLE case of hive this spring. I mean they were BAD. They started like little bug bites then were huge, swollen, and red. I had to take her to the ER because they moved to her face, and I was scared about them getting into her mouth and throat.

My daughter is not allergic to a darn thing... she has asthma, and non-allergic rhinusitus, she has been tested for every allergy... and is allergic to NOTHING. So I asked what could be cause hives. The doctor said, most of the time its allergic and to try and identify anything new that was introduced to you before you got the hives. But they said some people can break out in viral hives... no apparent cause what-so-ever.

I tired everything under the sun to help her stop itching... googled all kinds of home remedies... calamine lotion, aloe vera, cortisone, malox, everything. The ONLY thing that worked for her was oatmeal baths. Once I convinced her to actually get in the brown water (haha) it was the only thing that relieved her itching.

Thanks SO much for the advice I'll try all of that tomorrow and see if it'll help, also if anyone has anymore advice PLEASE TELL!! :D

Hello, if the oatmeal baths or anything else suggested here don't work, I think it is time for your parents to call the doctor and tell him that nothing is working to give you relief and find out what he recommends you do next.

I'm telling you, my daughter didn't want to get out of it haha! It was the ONLY thing that helped her with itching (shes only 5 so it was rough).

The cool oatmeal bath will also "calm" the hives, so they should clear up soon :D

I suffered from chronic hives for 6 months. Mine was not from an allergic reaction, but from stress of postpartum after a c section. Basically my adrenals were exhausted. I tried everything and nothing cured them. After 6 months of trying I went to a naturopath and had 4 treatments of hydrotherapy with a sine machine. My hives went away and never came back. If nothing works for you, try helping your adrenals in a natural way. You can do hydrotherapy at home without sine machine. Basically you but a really hot wet( not hot enough to burn you) towel on your chest for 10 minutes, then switch it with a really cold wet towel for 10 minutes and repeat. This technique shocks your body and re energizes the immune system. It worked for me!
