Hi, I lived in USA for 10 years paying Social Security.

Does anyone know if you can get a refund, if you are not going there to live again?

And where do I apply for it?

Doesn't work like that. Once it is in Uncle Sam's pocket - it is in there for good.

My father in law died at age 59. Never saw a dime of all the Social Security he paid in and none of his heirs will see it, either.

But others will tell you that if Social Security was privatized, all He! Would break loose.

If you paid into Social Security for 40 quarters (ten years), you have met the minimum vesting requirement, which means that you qualify for a reduced Social Security pension when you turn 62 and a somewhat larger pension at age 65.

If you contact the Social Security Administration with your name and SSN, they can tell you if you qualify and about how much the monthly benefit will be. You can draw on that benefit from ANYWHERE on earth.
