I have started to see a guy from work. He has been in previous relationships whereas I haven't. I'm totally clueless and find myself being a little tense. He keeps complimenting me all the time and says he isn't just saying it to appeal to me, but he genuinely means it. Other than thank you I don't know what to say. And I don't know whether to compliment him back. He says he can't understand why I am so shy but I think its more worry that I'm too inexperienced for him, although he knows I have never been in a relationship before and he's being so kind and so understanding. I just feel scared but I do feel comfortable with him, please help me!

A compliment is just that, a compliment. It should never be perceived as something that you must reciprocate unless you wish to do so. For example if he says "you have such beautiful eyes" you can say "aw thanks that's very sweet of you!" or just "aw thanks!" He clearly is a very sweet guy and wants to make you feel special - nothing to worry or be shy about!

If you want to compliment him you can do so just as freely as he does. Perhaps if he is wearing a really nice shirt you like you can say "you look really good in that shirt" Just an example.

The key is to RELAX! :)

Say what's on your heart and start complimenting him some times guys like it too. Since he knows its your first relationship then he should understand why you get so shy so don't be afraid to be shy but try and warm up to him, tell him one of your most embarrassing moments or do something crazy just to get comfy with him it worked for me I can't sing and would always be afraid I might start singing in front of my boyfriend well now husband so one day I just sung a silly song I made up in from that day on I couldn't feel crazy every again.
