    Building up bad credit?
I have got bad credit and I really don't know how out why? Im only 20 and have never had anything in my name. My mum says to get something to build it up but I get knocked back every time I try. How do you build up bad credit if they won't let you? I am a mother now and tried to get a mothercare card and it was refused. Its stressing me out please can someone help

What makes you think you have bad credit? What is a mothercard card? What reasons were you given for refusal. Where are you located?

I am in Manchester. They cannot tell you why it has been refused, all they do is give you a number to call. And then you have to pay for a copy of your credit to be mailed to you!
I am just assuming I must have bad credit although I don't know how? Even last year I tried for a 'toysRus' and I was refused! I don't have any credit cards or anything, as I carnt get it... I just don't know how I am meant to build it up if they won't give it me. And now I have a baby I could really do with having good credit

I don't think it's that you have bad credit, only that you have no credit history. You need to talk to your bank about some way of building a credit history.

Another thing you can do is call the company you want the credit from. If you just fill out an application they determine whether to give you credit based on your credit score. If you call them a lot of times they will take a look at the fact that you have no credit (rather than bad credit) and they will give you a credit card with a low balance on it. If you make your payments on time they will increase your balance. Good luck and be very careful to keep your credit good. Nobody told me what credit was and I ended up really screwing it up. It's very hard to regain your credit once it gets bad.

Thank you for that, I never knew about myself until I had my Son! It's a pain not being able to get anything. So do you think going in to my bank and asking would be the best bet or going in to a shop etc...

I think if you have been a bank customer for some time, they would be willing to give you credit through them, start small.. dont go trying to get loads of credit, as this will hurt your score..
