WinXP Pro SP2 Cannot Boot or Reinstall - Fatal Error
    Hello,

My WinXp SP2 system (with 3 Partions - C: D: & E: of about 50gb each) was running absolutely fine

Until yesterday when I did a Spyware scan with SuperAntiSpyware and left the system for a while. When

I returned the system had rebooted and the screen was blank (black with the mouse scroll). I rebooted

Again and when it reached the welcome screen it stuck and the desktop won't open.

After trying several times I tried to repair my Xp installation so I booted with the Xp CD and when

It asked whether I want to reinstall or repair, I selected the (R) option -> 1: and Rebooted again.

    Nothing! The same problem.

Then I selected Install Xp option and when it prompted to repair after dfetected previous Xp I did

That. This time a large number of files were copied but some files could not be copied as it asked me

To either quit installation or skip those files. I skipped them.

When the system booted I got to a screen where it said "windows will now detect devices such as mouse

and keybord" but half way through the scroll bar got stck" and when I tried rebooting again the same

    Thing happened.

I finally tried the last option that came to my mind and decided to reinstall WinXp on the same

Partion (even though I got a warning that previous installation and applications will be deleted).

This time also the same thing happened where files were copied and some files were skipped, but when

The system Rebooted it was BAD!

    I got the error:

    C000021A Fatal System Error.

Windows Logon Process terminated unexpectedly with a status of OXC0000135. System shut down.

Believe me! Since then I have lost my sleep.

My main concern is my Data. If there is any way I can avoid losing my data
(atleast on my Partions D & E ) and can back it up, I would be Really! Really Grateful.

Please help ASAP! And many thanks in advance!

    Regards,
    Basu

To secure your data, take the hard drive out and add it as a slave in another computer. However I would make sure that you run a decent anti-virus on it before you do so.
