My house is new construction and is less than 2 years old. I have a guest full bathroom upstairs that is rarely used. I have started noticing strong sewer smells from that bathroom. What are some possible causes of the smell and are there any simple do-it-myself solutions?

The key to your smell might be linked to the lack of use. When was the last time that shower/ bath was used? If it's been a while the water in the p-trap under neath it can actually evaporate low enough that the sewer gases can escape into your home causing that wonderful smell.. *s*... if so easy fix run some water to make sure the trap is topped off.. should take about a cup or so... I would smell close to the drain first to make sure it's the culprit.. but 9 times out of 10 sewer smells in rarely used bathrooms are p-traps drying out... hope it works.

Yep, it is likely the sink P trap. Just add water every few weeks and that should keep it smelling OK.
