    My computer is freezin!
    All I do is start it up.. is it sick or something?

    I try to talk on MySpace IM, but when I try to reply, it sits there, frozen.

    I'm about ready to shoot it in the face! Help!

    No, it freezes up anytime.
    I deleted all the temporary internet files, all the un-needed programs, and all the excessively large and unnecessary files.
    I saved all my photos to photobucket...

    I read your other post as well. Based on that, though I am unfamiliar with the exact situation, I feel it prudent to run an anti-virus program. It could be that your computer is infected.

    If you don't have anything installed on the computer you can't get back I would consider reinstalling the operating system. This could fix your problems and if you have a virus that your anti-virus isn't picking up it would wipe that as well. Just a possibility that I like to save for last resort but I would always try this before ever paying for someone to look at it.

    If you look at it this way, you take it to Best Buy or some other computer repair place they will probably either tell/do the same thing anyway and then charge you $100+ for it. My two cents.

    Your computer may have too many processes running or not enough RAM(possibly a combination of both).

    To disable processes that are not needed follow these steps.

    1. Click the start button
    2. go to Run
    3. type msconfig and hit enter
    4. go to the startup tab
    5. go to ProcessLibrary.com - The online resource for process information! and enter each process to see if it is needed for your computer to operate properly
    6. uncheck anything that is not needed
    7. restart your computer

    To check and see how much RAM your computer has:

    1. click the start button
    2. right click my computer
    3. select properties
    4. go to the Gerneral tab your computers RAM is displayed towards the bottom

    I suggest at least having 512 MB of RAM on a windows XP system and 1 GB of RAM on windows Vista. More RAM is needed if the computer is used for things such as video editing and gaming.

    1. Defrag your hard drive. Use the built in XP defragmenter (dfrg.msc). It's the only one that properly optimizes your system's prefetching to speed up boot time.

    2. Go to Microsoft's website and download BootVis.exe. It will optimize your prefetching even further than the built in defragmenter. Use both to get the best results: dfrg.msc first, then BootVis.exe->Tools menu->Optimize. Also, you can use it to benchmark your boot time before and after system tweaks and software installations.

    3. Go to Start->Run... and type or paste "Rundll32.exe advapi32.dll,ProcessIdleTasks". This will start a built in optimization routine that runs in the System Idle Process and shows up as "rundll32.exe" in task manager. It normally runs automatically every 3 days. It will run for 15 minutes to half an hour, so don't try to do anything too intensive while its running. If you get tired of it running, you should probably log off or restart to be safe, rather than ending the process.

    4. Delete anything that you don't need in the Start->Programs->Startup folder, and in the Registry under HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Run and HKCU->Software->Microsoft->Windows->Run.

    5. Go to Start->Control Panel->Administrative Tools->Services or go to Start->Run... and type "services.msc" to display services running on your machine. About 1/3 should be automatic, 1/3 should be manual, and 1/3 should be disabled, In my opinion. If you don't know which to change, search Google for "XP services" and read one of the many webpages that describe each service.

    Future advice: Be careful about the Peep Squad or anyone else you don't personally know who services your computer.

    If you have anything personal on there back it up and remove it from the hard drive before you send it in for testing. There have been many complaints about them going through computers. (Hence the nickname)
