    Garbage disposal
I had a garbage disposal installed in my kitchen by a plumber. Sometime when we put garbage in and turn it on it shoots out the other drain and comes up into the other sink basin. My guess is that too much garbage is being put inthere at one time and shoots it across. Also, the instructions say to run cold water down the drain while that is running. If I was running warm to hot water, does this have anything to do with it? Ihave a 3/4 horse disposal. Does anyone have any ideas why this might be doing this? Thanks

    Your trap is likely clogged.

The trap is the lowest "U" shaped piece.

Put a bucket under there, remove the two nuts that hold it on, and pull it off to clean it out.

Some garbage will notoriously do this; with potato peels and egg shells being at the top of the list.

This is a 15 minute "operation". Try it and let us know how it goes.

Rick gave you good advice, Let me carry it a bit farther. If you find the trap's clear then you have a partial clog in the laterial,(horizontal) pipe in the wall. While you have the trap apart run a snake up the tail of the trap.
You'll hit a elbo about 6" in, just crank and work your way around it. The good news is that you should have less then 6' of cable to put out. Now flush out the crud with two large pans of boiling water. Good luck, Tom

Rick and Tom, would this have happened so quickly after having this installed. Also, it only happens once in a while. I think my wife thinks it is the installation. I tend to disagree (I won't tell her that, lol). If I can describe real quick. 2 basins: left side has garbage disposal. That has a short horizontal piece which connects to a tee from the right side basin. That goes down to the trap then to the drain(this has an air vent? Off the top of it) then to the basement where the main drain is. I will check the trap as Rick advised then check the tail as Tom advised and go from there. I haven't gotten around to asking the plumber but maybe it is just someothng stupid. Thanks guys.

Pull that trap off to start. It's definitely not a disposer issue. It's something in the drain (hopefully the trap, but as Tom said possibly beyond the trap).

OK, like I said I will try to look at it within the next couple days. Unfortunately, I have 20 projects going at once and no time to do them. I am sure I am not the only one. Thanks for your help.
