    Computer goes straight to black screen
    Hello,
    When I try to start my laptop it goes to a black screen with just a white prompt in the upper left hand corner. I have tried starting pressing the F8 button but it will not work. I am running windows xp. I don't know what to do. This is my bosses laptop on top of everything! Would really appreciate some help from those that are far more technically advanced than me.

    Your best bet would be to repair your XP installation if it isn't safe mode booting! Otherwise just locate one of the RAM modules.. take out & then back again.Try this after attempting to repair windows,using you XP CD of course!
