I'm having problems with the engine making only one turn while starting it. Searched and it seems to need valve adjustment. One question, just to be sure since the valves have diff clearances... which one is the exhaust valve and intake valve?

The intact will be quite clean and the exhaut will be black and dirty. When adjusting the valves brig the engine to top dead center and then turn the flywheel another 1/4 , both valves will be totally closed at this point.
I'm not going to take the head off, just the valve cover, so I think I'm not going to be able to identify them that way. Somebody know for example which is the one closer to the flywheel?Quote:

Usually on a briggs the upper valve is the intake. You should be able to "trace" the intake from the carb and looking at it tell which one it leads to, and this will be the intake valve.
Also, when you go to tdc, you go 1/4 inch past tdc to set the valves.
