I have a Nutone combination Fan/Light in my bathroom. Out of the blue, the light does not work but the fan still works. There is a separate switch for the fan and another for the light. I checked the bulb and it is OK. I checked the switch and it seems to work. I detected voltage on the hot wire coming into the light socket in the fan housing. All wires appear to be connected. I rubbed the contact point between the ground on the light where it meets the fan housing to make sure that had a good contact. Could this some how be related to losing the ground? If so, how do I go about getting the ground back again?

How are you testing? Are you testing between the black and white on the lamp socket? You should have voltage there with the light switch on.

To check if the white is open, test between the black on the socket and the frame of the fan, which should be grounded. If you gte voltage here then the white is open, probably because of a loose splice. Or event where the wires attach to the socket can be loose or broken. These connections are usually a rivet to the socket and can loosen.

Whichever you find open you need to check each connection back to the switch.
