Geometry Surface area for a cylinder with cone on top
I need some help on the way to solve for the surface area of a cylinder with a cone on the top. I think that I solve for the surface area of the cone, then solve for the surface of the cylinder. I have the height from the center of the bottom circle to the apex of the cone, and I have the radius for the circle. I also have the height of the side of the cylinder. Once I get the SA for the cone and the cylinder, I think I should subtract once of the areas of the circles since it is included in the cylinder's surface area as well as in the surface area of the cone. I just need guidance on this problem.

    Thanks!

I don't have any problems with that method. You can solve it with calculus too, but you would be deriving the formulas.

Yes, you need to calculate the surface area of the cone and the cylinder separately, then subtract twice the area of the base.

You've got it down pat! You have all the information you need and you know the process because you stated it in your post. Solve the problem. If you want to share with me the specific numbers involved and your calculations I'll be glad to critique your work.
