I missed my pill on Monday so I took the forgotten pill on Tuesday morning (only the one because I had lost my next packet.) Tuesday night I had unprotected sex with my partner because I remembered taking the pill (but forgot that I missed it Monday!) Wednesday morning I took my pill plus the emergency contraceptive pill but the chemist didn't explain anything to me... this morning I had unprotect sex - was it safe?? I'm really stressing, I thought it was OK but now thinking about it I'm not sure. Plan B made me really sick I don't want to have to take it again. Please help!

Anytime you have unprotected sex there is a chance of becoming pregnant. I got pregnant while taking birth control pills, and I took them every single day never missing one.
When you skip or miss a pill there is a higher chance of getting pregnant.
I would suggest that if you are worried about pregnancy always use another source of protection, such as a condom. No birth control is 100% effective that is why it is best to use two forms.
If I were you I would call the pharmacy, or wherever you got plan B, and explain to them what happened and see what they suggest.

Plan B should only be taken once a cycle. It becomes less effective if taken more than once. You should be covered for the unprotected sex you had today (no guarantees there unprotected sex can always result in pregnancy it's just less likely).

The effectiveness of Plan B also hinges on taking it as prescribed, meaning within 72 hours of having unprotected sex or missing a pill, one pill taken 12 hours after the first.

I am not sure how it works in conjunction with birth control there should be info about that on the Plan B website.

I believe it also depends on the type of birth control you are on. The mini pills or progesterone only pills have to be taken at exactly the same time everyday and when a pill is missed (eve if you double up the next day) there is a chance for ovulation to occur and therefore pregnancy.

With regular pills I don't believe the risk is as great when a pill is missed and doubled up th following day. This isn't to say that you can't get pregnant it is still possible.


I personally would recommend using a second form of contraception for the rest of this cycle until you have a period and start the next package of pills.
