My daughter's furniture is finished with a cream color paint and laquered (?); however, all furntiure that had something sitting on it with rubber pads now has orange-ish stains where the pads were. Any advice on how to remove these stains without removing the finish? Thanks! The first thing that I would try is using 0000 steel wool and water as a lubricant for the steel wool to rub out the stains. Test a very small area first to see if this is doing the job. Use the heel of your hand and not your fingers to apply pressure. You will also need to rub-out a larger area in order for it to look right. I would also rub it out in the direction of the length of the width of the top of the piece.

You could also use the paste wax for lighter finishes that is available from Minwax for a lubricating agent for the steel wool. Just be sure to rub out the wax right away with a soft, clean cloth also in the direction of the length of the width of the top of the piece.

Another possible lubricant for the steel wool would be paint thinner. It will work as a lubricant for steel wool, even on lacquered finishes.
