My a/c and heater are not working. I thought to change out the thermostat and as we were changing it out found out there is no power to the thermostat. The a/c unit and heater unit are getting power. My house is only 5 years old so everything is relatively new. I am wondering if it could be the transmitter in the heater but do not know anything about those. If someone could give me some ideas it would be great. Thank You. Lishelle

Check the basics first: Fuses, circuit breakers, switches. Is blower access door securely installed to engage interlock switch? If equipped with a condensate pump, is it working? (Some condensate pumps have an auxiliary switch that can be used to disable system if the pump overfills or fails to empty.) Inspect t-stat wire for damage. Check for low-voltage fuse at furnace control board.

There is a 24 volt transformer that powers the thermostat... power from it controls the gas valve, the ac outside, and the blower...

There is probably a circuit board that tells your furnace and ac when to operate, this is the control circuit... I want heat ---> I want AC ------> Run blower motor ----->

How do I find the transmitter? I have checked the circuit breakers. I have not checked any fuses as to we can not find any. I have a Standard American heater unit. I don't know if that helps. I have checked electricity to both the air conditioner and the heater and they are both working.

Are you saying you changed the thermostat?? If this is the case do you have

The name of the and model numbers of both thermostats... The way I see it the

System worked before the thermostat was replaced, think it is wired wrong or

A jumper is missing... Don't think a transmitter is the problem...

We changed the thermostat because we thought that was the problem and found out that there was no power to the thermostat so the original problem was not the thermostat. That is when we found out that there was power to the heater and a/c unit. So there is no electrical current to the thermostat. I have checked all the electrical currents with a tester. I am not an electrician, just a single mom trying to figure out what it is before paying someone to come out and flick a switch and charge 100 dollars. I would like to know what I am telling someone or try and figure it out myself. THe thermostats that I took out is an American Standard, it looks like the center tab that would have all the numbers is scraped off. The new one is a Hunter model 44155C.

I called Hunter and am waiting for an answer from them

In the furnace is a printed circuit control board, perhaps behind the bottom panel, on this board see if you can find a small automotive type fuse, remove this fuse by pulling straight out, if it is burnt ,replace with same size. Always turn off power before attempting to make repairs. Good luck, Mike
