Hi,

I have a 97 nissan maxima GLE. My a/c is currently working intermittently. I have the digital display and when getting in it and starting the car, the fan display would show that it was coming on and (should be)blowing. There is NO movement/air at all. Then out of the blue it will come on and work fine for a while. The other thing that I noticed is that when it is actually working, when you hit the brakes, it sounds like it slows way down but when you let up on the brake, it speeds back up to normal speed. I have no idea if this is the blower motor going bad or maybe a bad switch or what... I need any help that you can offer. Thanks so much for your time. :D

That actually sound like two different problems.

First, the blower motor not moving air intermittently is likely a failing blower motor or blower motor control module.

Secondly, for the blower motor speed to be dropping with additional loads on the charging system (brake lamps), either the alternator isn't putting out full rated amperage or the drive belt is losing traction and not turning the alternator fast enough.

Take your car to your shop and have them inspect both issues.

Maintenance and inspection is by far less costly than towing and then repairing.
