Is it too early to tell?
My boyfriend & I had sex about a week ago and we were worried that I might have gotten pregnant. But then I started my period 2 days after we had sex. I haven't noticed any pregnancy symptoms yet (besides the ones before my period had started... which I am now convinced it was just PMS from an upcoming period). The tension is killing us & we really want to know whether I am pregnant. If I was to take a HPT now, would it be too early to tell?

Yes, a week is too early to tell. Also, a week is too early to be having symptoms. If you started your period chances are that you aren't pregnant. However, I would still take a HPT just to ease your mind and make sure. Wait about 2 or 3 more weeks before taking one.

In order to get the best results, is there a certain time of the day that a HPT should be taken?

The HPT must be taken using first morning urine to get the best accurate response.

Why is it in the morning?

The reason is that the urine stays in the bladder during the night, which gives it time to build up the pregnancy hormone called Hcg. So, the Hcg is higher in the morning. If you urinate frequently throughout the day, you urinate the highest concentration of the hormone, making the HPT less effective.

Oh, I see. Well, my boyfriend has been talking about taking me to a clinic to do a blood check. He said there was one near my house that was free and confidential but it would stay on my record. Is this true for all clinics?
