    Do you know this book
A blind boy and his mother visits a place where there are saltmarshes.
From the time a letter with the address came Sam(or matt, the main character), feels that this place they are going to visit is familiar to him.

When they get to their holiday destination, the blind boy makes a new friend called Roly.
They take walks in the marshes etc,but sam(or matt) seemed to be able to see the places when Roly describes them, they even visit an abandoned mansion.

But when sam (or matt's) mother asks to meet Roly... things change..
He find out that the only Roland has been out of town the last time sam(matt)met with Roly.
He finds out that Roly is a ghost, and that he himself is reincarnated.

    In the past
They had been friends, but Roly being Rich and spoilt had ended the friendship when he had grown tired of sam(matt). As Roly was the mansion owners son and Sam was the cooks, there was nothing much to be done to get them together.Sam(matt) one day enters the mansion he had been forbidden by Roly. Then Sam walks out of the mansion,Roly follows and they both go towards the sea. When the others reach there they find both had drowned but only Roly's body washes ashore, sams(matts) was never found.

    Present
It is 100th year day since their death,
Sam(matt) follows Roly into the marshes, they fight and Roly asks Sam to let him go,but he does want to let Roly go.
But when Sam says "I forgive you ", hears a gulls cry and remembers what Roly had told him, people say gulls are risen souls...

    ---------------
The last sentence goes something like this...

Two sets of footprints going into the sea, and only one returning.

I read this book around 8-9 years ago borrowed from a friend, but I have not been able to find the author.
If anyone has any idea what this book/author might be...
