    Clogged drain confusion
I have a clogged bathroom sink drain. I ran a snake about 25' into the drain pipe but the clog only got worse. Even a Drano type clog remover was no help. All the other drains in my house seem to work fine.

I am thinking I have a weird drain configuration on this particular sink or another major issue. Any ideas?

Do you think I could have run the snake up the vent toward the roof as there are no drain outs in my old house?

Does this sink sit anywhere close to the commode in that same bathroom? If it is within 15 feet of the commode it is very possible that your snake went up the vent instead of down the drain line where the stoppage is, try the snake again and after you have 5 feet or so of the snake in the drain listen as you turn it to see if you can hear anything going up the wall behind the sink.

Did you hit anything or bring anything up with the snake? Drano can make an instant plug. Think solid hair. A power snake may be required.

I did not bring anything up on the snake and yes it is within 5' of commode but why would only this one drain be affected?

Should I will snake down the vent in the roof because if I do have a drain out, it is buried and I have no idea where it is. Only been in the house 8 years but house has been here 38.

If you were attempting to reach the drain by going up the trap tail into the wall you will have a 50/50 chance of going up the vent from the sanitary tee as going down into the drain line. I believe you went up the vent and missed the drain line. Go up on the roof and come down the lavatory vent. Put our enough cable to reach the base and 20 feet more. Good luck, Tom
