If you don't have a surge protector, then yes, and in some cases even when you do... I don't know about it exploding though :)
It is advisable to turn off and unplug ALL electrical items during a heavy thunder storm.
It's a good idea to turn your computer off and unplug it from the wall or surge protector. Even surge protectors don't always keep your things safe from a lightening strike.
