I noticed the other day that when running my dishwasher, the gargage disposal overflowed with water. And last night, while running the laundry machine, my 2 showers had water rising out of the drain and the water in my 3 toilets started to "bubble" and the water level went down. Our house is 2 years old, on septic - we live in Florida and our property is raised. Anyone know what to do? I don't think it's the septic tank as we are not there during the day and don't think it could be filled already.

That's the first thing I would have checked. Has it been raining a lot in your area?
To check your septic tank locate and open the house cleanout. Cycle the washer and see if water backs up out of the cleanout. If it does then your septic tank need to be pumped. If the tank's Ok then snake the drain that are affected. Good luck, tom

Thanks for your response Speedball. I had a plumber take a look at the septic tank over the weekend - he said it looked and smelled like a restaurant septic tank - there is a thick layer of grease that is causing the backup - we are going to have it emptyed this week. My problem is how the grease got in there - I don't use oil in my cooking - I'm a very heathly person and my husband doesn't cook at all - so there's no way that oil grease got into the tank from that. I've been racking my brain all weekend trying to figure out what's going on and this morning, I read the "ingredients" on our body wash (we both use this a lot!) - the 2nd ingredient is glycerine. Could this be the cause??

If you're not the first owners then perhaps it's not you but the former owners that put all the grease in your septic tank. Just hope none of it got out in your drain field to clog up the drainage holes. Have the tank pumped and cleaned and hope for the best. Good luck, Tom
