I am 26 yrs old and have been "married" for 4 yeaqrs. I lived with my husband for about 6 months and then found out he was a cheater and threw him out. I have not really spoken to him since and just want a quick divorce. I have since met a wonderful man and he asked me to marry him. My husband,Joseph, and I have no property or children. What is the easiest and cheapest way to get a divorce. And does it help that he was in jail for 5 months while we were married. Please elp... I want to get this taken care of before my grandfather passes on. He really wants my fiancé and I to be married. He loves my fiancé and I just want to make him happy. I believe you can fly to the Pacific Islands, Guam or American Samoa, where they have expedited marriages recognized by the US. Other than that, it doesn't matter that you don't have kids or property, divorces take a long time. I think, on average, it takes around a year to finalize a divorce. Hope that helps.

Without children or property to haggle over, you might get a divorce in three months. Unless your husband contests the divorce. You really need to speak to a divorce attorney and find the answer there. There can be many variables to this that you do not even realize.

If you and your husband can agree on things you could be divorced rather quickly depending on how busy your court is. It's a simple 'dissolution'... where you draft up what's yours, what's his etc and you both agree to all the terms. My husband and his ex wife both did it without attorneys and it was really fast.

While being in a rush, make sure that to consult an attorney and a CPA. Know what issues to address. Understand the affects on your holdings, including retirement accounts.

What I am currently going through is called (A lawyer who gave me the papers I needed called it this anyways) a simple divorce. We had no actual assets togeather, other then having a joint bank account. We were renting an apartment togeather, did not have a vehicle... We had to fill out forms, and then a year after he moved out we could file them, pay 350$ (canadian) and we would be divorced.
I live in Canada, and was told this was the most quick way, for my situation.
