    1998 Accord intermittent starting
1998 Accord EX, 5-spd, 2.3L, 2-dr.: sometimes won't start after driving or after sitting in hot weather. After driving and turning off ignition, you can restart the car immediately, but not usually after waiting about five minutes. Battery good, engine turns over fine, then will start after 10-20 minutes. Check engine light operates normally [goes off after about 2 seconds]. Tachometer does not move until engine cranks. Plugs have been replaced, igniter and coil replaced. Mechanic says not main relay in that fuel is present, but no spark. After car starts it can be driven indefinitely without stalling. It only seems to be a starting problem.

. When the CEL goes out, do you hear and/or feel the main relay "click"?

If not, repair or replace the main relay. Intermittent, heat-related starting problems with Hondas are usually caused by cold solder joints on the main relay's printed circuit board. Personally, I would replace the relay, which is located left of the steering column. Here's what it looks like and costs:

. Ensure rotor and distributor cap are in good shape.

. Ensure spark plugs (NGK only) are the same plug number that came in the car.

    . Replace fuel filter.
