Following an accidental puncture of my incoming water line with a post hole digger we have repaired the incoming line. But, the problem that now exists is that I have some water through the hot taps only, virtually nothing from the cold, including toilets and the washing machine. We have back flushed the cold supplies under the sinks using compressed air, blowing some lime etc. back out through an open line outside the home. In other words, I have air moving but not water. Hot yes, cold no, and some taps have no hot or cold. My contractor says it is the pressure tank, I think if it were that I would not have hot water pressure either. HELP!

What is the pressure at the pump? Your contractor's blowin smoke. You're correct, if it were the pressure tank both hot and cold would be affected.
Your problem could only be caused by dirt entering the system when the water service was ruptured. There just isn't any other answer. Try back flushing with water. Air might not be enough to move the dirt still left in the mains, branches and valves. Good luck, Tom.

Thank you for your reply. I have checked the tank and it seems to be holding pressure at about 42 psi once filled and after the pump cycles off. More evidence that I do not need a pressure tank. I am now trying to arrange a plumber to get all my taps back on track and make sure everything is buttoned up for winter. Is there any way to know where the water lines run in a mfg. double wide home? They are beneath the floor and hidden by insulation from below.

Check aeration screens for dirt. Go to each shut off and rotate to off and then back to on with faucet open. Does frig. Have an ice maker? When you blew back with air were you able to do that from the faucet opening? Bleed off 1 or 2 gallons from the base faucet of your hot water tank and check for debris. Best to you.
