    Kenmore washer 110.20842990-grinding noise
My washer won't agitate or spin, but instead makes a noise like gears are grinding. It's fairly loud. Is this a self fix problem or do I need a technician?

I'm pretty handy. I've never worked on a washer though. Will I need parts or something just not in sync? Did the large load play a part in this? My wife says she couldn't have done this and I agreed to keep the waters calm. But I think it did.

The likely problem is that the transmission died. If it is this problem it's not for the average DIY. Consider replacing the washer.
