Ask Me Help Desk - How to handle my boss?

Its been a year since I took up this new job. My boss has not assigned me any responsibilities though there are hell a lot of activities going on. I am the only subordinate under him. I have spoken to him many times reg this and also I have told him that I don't like to get paid for sitting idle. He has an opinion that I am not fit to be in this position since I have a different technical & Domain background. (His boss was the one who recruited me and who is not in our company anymore). I have tried telling & proving that I have learnt a lot now and willing to learn more too. How can I make him recognize me and give me some responsibilities? (Nowdays I stopped interacting with him since I feel so ashamed to go and stand in front of him everyday).

How can your boss make a statement saying that he considers you cannot do the work you were employed to do if he does not give you the opportunity to do it?

The person who recruited you must have felt happy that you were right for the job and presumably saw your credentials before offering it to you.

My advice is to go to your boss and diplomatically point this out to him.

I am also assuming that your superior has others above him and I am sure they will not be happy that you are not being given the chance to do what you were employed to do. They are basically paying you for doing nothing and although it is not your fault, if/when they discover this anything could happen, including your dismissal.

If your superior will not listen to you, I feel you should tell him that if he won't give you a chance to prove yourself you will reluctantly have no alternative but to go over his head. I would tell him this in writing and of course keep a copy of it.

This is not an ideal situation but you have to try to protect yourself.

You are obviously not happy with the situation and unless it can be resolved, it may be time to consider looking for a position where your knowledge and talent will be appreciated.

Probably I am wrong but I am wondering if the staff your superior had under him before were males and whether sex discrimination was rearing its ugly head.

I know him (your boss) Mr. Pea Brain. Never thought I'd hear another word about him after his surgery. Your smart and he's dumb. Your bright and he's dull. Your sharp and he's blunt.
