Yesterday, my mom, my younger sister, and me went out to dinner and were driving down the road. We were coming home and we saw two girls jogging down the sidestreet that we were on. We didn't know they were our neighbors until we drove past them. We continued driving and saw two more girls walking a few hundred feet up. They were more of our neighbors and again we didn't know they were the neighbors until we drove past them. We got home and a few minutes later we noticed a sheriff's car in the neighbors driveway. We wondered what was going on but we couldn't see anything so we just went back to whatever we were doing. I looked out the window because I heard a door close and now the Sheriffs car was in our driveway. It turns out, the neighbors are filing chargest against us because we swerved and tried to hit them when we were driving past them which is the biggest lie ever. We simply drove past them like any other person would do so where they are getting that we tried to hit them is beyond me. I'm 14 years old and I've never been to court before and I was wondering what happens. Also, can I have your comments on what the neighbors did, please.

As long as you weren't driving, nothing will happen to you.

I am going to presume your mother was driving. If anything happens, it will be directed towards her. But, I can't see where anything can be filed if no one was hurt and no property damage was done.

Yes. A very bad history between us and the neighbors. You can read something else they did in my other post.

What happens in court is you will be called on to testify as to what happened. You testify to the facts. A judge or jury will decide what to do from there.

There are two ways this can go. If they file criminal charges, I suspect the prosecutor will decline to prosecute. Unless there is forensic evidence (tire marks, etc.) or witnesses, there is no proof that a prosecutor can take to court.

If they try to file a civil case, then you will counter sue. In either case, you will need to get an attorney.

But you parents should talk to the country prosecutor immediately and detail all the things that have been happening, I doubt if they will prosecute.

Oh, and one more thing I would do. I would go down the block where this supposedly happened and take pictures (include a date newspaper in the pics) to show there are no tire marks that would indicate a swerve.
