I've replaced an existing fan with a Hampton Bay Redington IV with the remote in my son's bedroom. The low speed is "lower than low", and at random, a light that's turned on in another room will cause the fan lights to come on.

5 years ago I installed ceiling fans in 3 of the 4 upstairs bedrooms. For all, I tapped into the existing wire, sealing the connections off in junction boxes. These symptoms have not occurred before; so either I connected the fan wires wrong or (I'm double-checking now) or the symptoms are now coming out because this fan is larger and probably has more of a power draw(?)

Any thoughts?

This might be a tough one, But here are 2 ideas:

1. Fan light turning on randomly
a. An arc from the light switch is interpreted as a command.
b) Try replacing switch in remote room
b) Bad remote module

2. Speed to low
a) External speed switch not set to high.
b) Bad remote
c) External speed switch defective
d) it's possible that the reversing switch is defective. You should be able to look at the ends of the switch and see if there is any visible contact damage. There also might work when the direction is the other way. This can be caused by moving the switch when the fan isn't stopped.

If a capacitor is used directly from the speed control, then the capacitor could be bad. I have no experience with fans with built in remotes only one with a remote added as an afterthought.

First, try resetting the frequency via the dip switches. If that doesn't fix things, you may have gotten a dude. Return it.
