Tooth too small for a crown - dentist wants to trim down my gums
I'm located in South Korea and I've had a really bad tooth for a while so I decided to take advantage of the national health care and see a dentist about my tooth. I was informed that I needed a crown and "nerve treatment". From the tools that the dentist was using I recognized the files as the ones they use in root canals. So I can only assume that "nerve treatment" in korea equals root canal. I've been going in for treatment of what I suspect is a root canal for the past month (a total of 6 visits, which seems excessive to me). Well what I got from the dentist is that there was an abscess and pus had to be extracted, antisceptic material inserted etc. etc. By my 7th visit the dentist says "nerve treatment" is complete however he cannot put a crown over my tooth because now it is too small. They want me to come in and get my gums trimmed so that more tooth can be exposed and covered by a crown. This is my first crown/rootcanal so I'm not sure if this is standard procedure.
