    Crest Whitestrips (or knockoff brands) work well, so do bleaching trays. You can also have a procedure done in a dentist's office, but it's usually about $300.

    As far as healthy and safe as long as you use an FDA approved product or method (don't go pouring regular bleach in your mouth!) and you don't use it to excess, you should be fine. Prior to any method you might want to brush with a toothpaste for sensitive teeth (Sensodyne is great) for a few weeks to ward off any painful sensitivity you might get from bleaching.
