Signing a lease while under a lease
I had a rent to own lease agreement from my tenant that expired August 31st of 2007. The end of July she signed another lease agreement on another house, not saying a word to us about it, and this rental agreement went into force August 10th of 2007 which is before our agreement is legally up. The only reason that we found out about it is because she was late on rent and my husband went to her house. Can she legally sign a rental lease while she is still under a lease with us?

    Hello jif:

I suppose she can, but that doesn't mean the lease she has with you is void. It just means that she's obligated twice. Hopefully, you have a hefty down payment..

Anyone is free to rent as many properties as they like. Your lease is still valid too.

Yes, she can rent 10 houses if she wants to, she still has to pay for all of them till the leases are up. She is obligated to the terms of your lease till it runs out. Normally if he moves she will pay the rent till you find someone new.

She did nothing illegal by signing the lease. But she still owes you the August rent. If she doesn't pay it, sue her.
