When I try to start the mower I have to push the clutch petal in and out several times before it will start.Is there an ajustment I can make on the clutch petal.

Yes, there is an adjustment, but I think the problem may be that one of the two mounting screws to the safety switch is missing. Or the tip of the switch may be broken or worn to where you are not making good contact with the tip.
