Yeah, I know this sounds like a stupid question, but just got this car & none of my other cars have 2 dip sticks. The engine oil one I checked & oil level is good, but dirty. I thought the other one might be tranny fluid, but the dip is almost dry, but the tranny fluid cup says it is okay. Don't make me buy a repair book! Thanks for your help

This is an automatic. When you stand facing the engine the fluid cup is up on the right near the hood hinge & the mystery dip stick is down on the left

What you are calling the "tranny fluid cup" is likely the master cylinder reservoir for the brakes. The transmission dip stick is likely yellow. If the fluid is low, add the specified ATF fluid until it's within the "shaded" area. Don't overfill. Final levels should be adjusted, when the transmission is at normal operating temperature and in Park. The best thing would be to get the transmission fluid and filter changed--then you know its condition. This could also save you from the big unexpected transmission bill later. If you take care of the engine and transmission, everything else is more minor.

I think txgm. Is right, I think you see the master cylinder resovoir. Look on the cap and see if it says, use only dot 3, or equilivant fluid. If it says that it is the brake master cylinder resovoir, do not pour trans. Fluid in here. On the automatic trans. You will use a funnel and add fluid through the dipstick tube.

Thanks to all of you! I am taking it in to my mechanic ( who is a gem! ) & I like to have some idea of what's goin' on, so I can tell them what to look for. Knowledge is good, I don't work on my cars, but I do like to know how things work.
