    Copyright Law Re: Music usage
I have a question about use of music in personal histories. If I shoot video of a family member or other individual performing a copyrighted song (such as Happy Birthday, or a wedding song) do I need to be concerned about getting legal clearance for the use of the music if the final video is only for the personal use of the family? Also, what if a copyrighted piece of music happens to be playing in the background as I am filming a video? Do I need to be concerned about getting legal clearance to use that video in a personal history for family use only?
Thanks for any help or direction you are able to provide in answering this question.

If you are in the U.S. as long as it is for PERSONAL use, will not be distributed, and will not be publicly displayed, you do not need permission.
