I Just had my Georgia bank accounts garnished, based on a Georgia State court judgement. There was little there, as I knew it might be coming. Question - don't I get some kind of notice? What is the garnishment procedure and is there any way for me to monitor public filings like this online?
I have changed my legal residence to FLA, where they cannot garnish a head of household.
I have not found many online resources about protecting yourself from garnishment, or even info on the procedures.. Many thanks!

What is the garnishment for?

Of courre I will assume you are living in Fla, since if the court proves you are not actually living there as a residence, they may not accept it, if you are actually residing somewhere else.

But no GA does require any notification of the garnishment itself, you would have been served legal notice of the judgement hearing and would have had a chance to represent yourself at that. After they get a judgement, there is no requirement that they notify you of the attachment of bank accounts or garnishment of your pay.

You can't protect yourself from garnishments, except by not having assets to garnish. The time to protect yourself is BEFORE they get a judgement against you.

As Chuck said, there is no requirement to notify you that a garnishment will be served. You should know if a judgement has been entered and therefore a garnishment is a possibility.
