Dvd-ram burs dvd, but does not burn cd!
    Hello everybody.
Here is my problem, I have a toshiba equium laptop that has a mata dvd-ram uj-8415 and windows professional installed on it. The thing is that a can burn dvds with out a problem but I can't burn any cds. Now a have tried different brands of cds: tdk, philips, sony, etc. I have tried different applications as well like nero, sonic record, even easy extractor or ultraiso. The burning process starts, it reaches to about 10 present and then a get the error message, either the cd is not good or with nero a sequence number. I tried everything that I could think of, search the internet but couldn't find anything conclusive.
Since I can burn dvds I'm thinking that is not the physical drive, and I did install some new applications a while a go. I do have to mention that the problem appeared out of nowhere.
When it comes to playing dvds or cds, I don't have problems. I can play anything.
Please help my... I don't want to install everything from scratch!!

Are your dvd-cd drivers properly installed? Because it could mean that you installed only DVD drivers but not the CD drivers. Get drivers here

I BELIEVE (someone correct me if I'm wrong) that drives use different lasers for burning CDs than they do for DVDs. If that's the case, it may be that the laser for burning CD's is either dirty, or defective.

retsoksirhc, same RED laser is used for both processes, but I like you idea of cleaning.
I have had a similar problem, but would burn CD's and NOT DVD's, a clean fixed it.

    It's certainly worth a try.
