I had a power outage last night. The power was down for one hour. None of my breakers tripped. This morning I turned on the water but there was none. I checked the breaker to my well pump and it was OK. I went outside to my well house and noticed that the well pump was running and it was very hot in the room. There gauge shows the water pressure at 0. I'm assuming that the pump ran without water overnight. I shut off the pump this morning. I replaced the original pump last year. Do I need to replace it again? I was under the impression that if the pump was not getting any water into it, it would shut down on it's own. Last year, the breaker was tripping when I replaced the pump. They are not cheap!! Thanks

By the way, I can hear my fridge making noise looking for water for the ice machine, is this a problem? Thanks

Sounds like pump lost its prime. Probably ran since power restored.
For the frig, you should be able to lift lever where ice fills.
Don't know best advice for well pumps. Hopefully good info will follow.

By the way, it's a Goulds Pump (J7) with two hoses coming from the ground into the pump. Help ASAP!! Thanks

Thanks, I think you're right about losing it's prime. I called the service company and they said that it will have to be replaced now that it has been running without water. Hard for me to swallow cause I paid them last year for this job.

How Much Pipe Do You Have Below The Water Level Of The Well, You Should Know This From Last Years Change Out Of Pumps. If You Feel Certain That You Are In The Water Table Good, I Would Try And Reprime The Pump. If You Do Not Know How, Call A Well Servicing Company, Before You Ruin Another Pump.

Not sure on how deep it goes. I was not home when it was serviced last year. But the pump he replaced, was all inside my well house that has a ladder that goes down into this room. There is about 5 or 6 steps to get down into the well room. The two hoses that go down into the floor, well, they go into the floor so I can't see how deep down they go. When I called the service company, the lady told me that if the room got hot from the pump, the pump needed replacement. By the way, it's 3/4 HP 15v. THanks

Service Company came out and found a hole in the hose (100ft) that goes down into the well. He primed the pump and got the pressure back up to 50. He was sweating up a storm cause the pump had the room very hot. He charged me $250.

Was the hole in the suction line repaired?

Yes, he cut a piece of the hose off where it was leaking and installed a junction. I had no idea we had that much hose there. When we pulled it out onto my garden, I immediately seen it spraying like a sprinkler where it was cut. Hose appeared to be old, so I will keep an eye on that problem. If I have another problem with the hose leaking, I will replace both tubes going down.

Water is very dirty right now. Letting it sit and then I will run my outside water before turning the main water of the house on. I replaced my water softner filter yesterday, so I'm not looking to clog it with all that crap today.

I am glad you got this fixed. The $250. I'm sure is a lot cheaper than a new pump.
