    I'm in trouble.
I have been diagnosed with severe clinical depression a while back. I'm on meds, but I think it is getting worse. I get in these terribly low spells, and just want to destroy something, so I started setting fires. I've started 2 grass fires, and then lit an old abandoned truck on fire. Has anyone had an experience with depression causing this behavior? Does anyone know how much trouble I'll be in?

Uh, yeah, you can get into trouble!
Go to your dr. right away and tell him/her. They can adjust your medication and/or put you on a diff't drug. I was diagnosed years ago w/ clinical depression and yes, I hit low spells at times, but no, I've never resorted to committing a crime (which is what you're doing - it's called arson, which is a felony.) Definitely get help. I feel for you, but go do something about it. Now. I go do something about it when I'm down that's legal - like, talk to my dr. or "take it out" on gym equipment or going for a run. Don't wait. You're going to hurt yourself or someone else if not. Good luck.

    Hello Mhardy,

As a retired Probation and Parole Officer I am familiar with your situation.

If you go to our Research Evidence for Hypoglycemia and then look for "arson' you will find studies showing that many arsonists have been found to be hypoglycemic.

Severe depression is one sign of What is Hypoglycemia?

Your doctor should be able to test you for prediabetic Insulin Resistance with the Medical Test for Hypoglycemia.

If found positive he will place you on a Hypoglycemic Diet as part of overall treatment.

    Depression
    HI,
Welcome to this site, and thank you for posting your question here.
You really need to go back to your doctor, and talk with him/her. Also, another answer gave you some links to look at.
Has your doctor suggested joining a free group of some type, to talk about it with others with the same issues?
Talking about things with others, with the same experiences, will help.
Please ask your doctor about any groups you might look into.

    Call you DR
As far as I know depression does not cause arson, you should call or see your doctor, talk to then about the feelings you are having, they my just change your meds, and then re-evaluate your progress. You are only in trouble if you do not talk to your doctor about what is going on and they can not help you if you do not allow them to.
