Well lets see around last christmas I dyed my hair black. I dyed it 2 more times after that to keep up with the color I have not dyed it in roughly 3 months. But now I want to dye my hair a mix of natural red and the actual color of red. My stylist can make the color for me, but I can't introduce the new color until the black is basically totally faded out. I used a permanent box color each time. I want to remove the current black color but bleaching/stripping is not an option. My hair is in a very healthy condition. So are there any home remedies or shampoos I could use to speed up the fading process.:confused: My natural color is starting to show through and the black has been fading for about 3 months now.

FIRST OF ALL Don't USE BOX COLOR!! ITS REALLY BAD FOR YOUR HAIR! But black is a very hard color to get rid of. I know from personal experence... lol... but really the only way to get rid of it fast is stripping it. Stripping it the right way by a hair dresser will not wreck your hair. I can asure you of that. I had to do it to mine.

The Only problem is IM 14 and my mother does not allow me to bleach it and she won't let me get a word in edge wise about stripping it.

Black hair dye is the hardest to remove from the hair. Remember that permanent hair color is permanent and will not wash away, but the color will gradually grow out. If you want to go from black to a decent red shade, you will need to pre-lighten your hair with bleach and then apply your desired color.

You could only remove the black by stripping it. I have learned from experience. I was ver scared to strip my hair but had no other choice however an at home hair dresser stripped it for me using effasor, I had read that hair strippers would have a bad smell and that it would leave your hair like straw. However I noticed no smell and my hair seems to be in great condition which is shocking. It is now a lighter golden/auburn colour and I think it should be easy to dye over. Perhaps you could ask a salon about using effasor on your hair. I would not recommend this only this has happened to me and I know it works. I want to help others in making there decision about this because it was difficult for me. It also would not be difficult to go from the colour effasor leaves your hair to red.

Try mixing twice as much shampoo (a strong one for clarifying hair or getting rid of dandruff) with one part baking powder into a paste, apply this to hair and leave on for around 20 minutes then rinse off well and condition. Baking soda has natural bleaching agents in that won't damage your hair and this combination has been used to wash very greasy hair and has often resulted in a lightening effect. It also helps to remove some of the dye. Wash your hair more frequently, go out in the sun as much as possible, this should help fade it a bit so you might be able to colour over it or it may even fade ut completely. Hope this helps

I know that dish soap can fade colors if you use it 3 days after the dye or earlier, it might work for you too... but you would have to get a deep conditioner to use after to make it smooth cause dish soap will dry it out really bad..

All the above answers are pretty correct. However as a do it yourself hair that's me . I usaully go black for the winter hides the gray better . And the spring red. I normally just use a intense red over the black (from the box) just be sure to cover it all.. an intense red will cover over the black without stripping it bleach will for sure damage your hair.
Remember the covering over black will not give give you the shade you see on the box however it gets rid of the black. Try using either intense red from fiera or light auburn..

You could use a dye called call (born blonde) it stripes the hair of the Dark coloring so that you can dye it a lighter color safely.
