Can I be pregnant and have negative urine tests?
Hello everyone, This is my first time using this site. I am in need of answers, so please anyone that would be able to give me an answer is welcome. I am 30 years old, and I already have a 7 year old boy. I have a boyfriend that I have been seeing for a while. We had unprotected sex once. I haven't had my period since. I took 6 home pregnancy tests and they were all negative. I made an appointment at the hospital here, they did a pregnancy tests and it was also negative. I have no insurance so I can't afford to just go to a doctor and get a check up. I did make an appointment with the hospital, but they gave me an appointment for late December. I was feeling nauseated early on, but I haven't really been feeling like that any more, just once in a while. I have to go to the bathroom like 10 - 15 times a day to urinate. I don't have tender breasts or a darken nipple. I do feel, however, that I have gained weight and its in my abdomen. I don't feel any movements, but it feels like butterflies in my stomach. I've been tired, sleepy and kind've cranky. It feels like I'm getting cramps sometimes. I can't seem to lay down on my stomach. Can I actually be pregnant from this one time of unprotected sex and just not know it? Thanks in advance for any answers.

Unfortunately, unprotected sex just one time can get you pregnant. How long ago did the sex occur? How long after the unprotected sex did you go to the doctor?

Sometimes HPT's can read negative when you actually are pregnant. It happened to me. Some women never get a positive result on HPT's, and some don't get one until the middle of pregnancy. The symptoms you have described can be pregnancy symptoms but they can also be symptoms of other things as well.

I know you said you can't exactly afford to go to the doctor, but it is recommended that you do. Did you get a blood test at the doctor, or urine? Blood tests are a lot more accurate.

Thank you for the reply. Last time I had unprotected sex was on June 1, 2007. I went to the doctor on July 18, 2007. They only did a urine test, no blood test.

If at all possible, you should get a blood test. If you go to a clinic rather than your regular doctor, it is usually at a lower cost. You can also try Planned Parenthood. Here is their website : Planned Parenthood Federation of America, Inc.

You can search for a location near you and call them and see what they can do. They are also usually low cost, if they charge anything at all.

It is possbile that you are just having an irregular period. There are many things that can cause this, such as stress, diet and some medications. These factors can also cause you to skip a period. But to be on the safe side, I would get checked out. Enough time should have gone by, by now, that it should pick up in a blood test. You can also try taking a couple of more HPTs and see what they say. First Response is the only one that worked for me. If it is negative, it is probably just irregularity.
