    Shots for puppy
I was just wondering how much does it cost to get all the shots needed for a puppy and how old do they have to be to get them?

I am not sure, I think my vet has the puppy in every 2 weeks until it has had 4 of the combo shots, then rabies at 6 months and another combo at 9 months. Each visit runs me about $35, but I think he shaves the cost because they are part of a working dog program. I think he does more shots than the AVMA protocol calls for, but any vet you aren't willing to trust, you should dump. I have never seen a problem with any of my puppies, or with my friend's working dogs. Nor have the vets at the dog guide school that review everything done to any of the dogs in their program. The total is likely to run over $200 the first year. Spay/neuter could run that much more. Infections, injuries, and disease can run it way up.

Usually a puppy is given shots at 6 weeks before it goes to its home. Once you get the puppy, check when it had any shots and call the vet you want to use. Let him suggest when you bring it in for a check up and shots.

This link is specific to parvo, but explains much of what happens with shots, Canine Parvovirus, What you should know about

Puppys should start having their shots at about 12 weeks of age. They will give you a combo shot that will cover Distemper, Hepatitis, Parainfluenza, and Parvo. They will need 1 to 2 more boosters of this shot, usually about 2 weeks apart. They will also probably give the puppy a Bordetella (kennel cough) vaccine. There are other shots that dogs should have, but do not need right away (ask your vet or vaccine clinic about these). Rabies is given at 4 months and is required to get your dog licensed. If you go to a shot clinic, each vaccine will be about 10 bucks, if you take them to your regular vet, vaccines can be anywhere from 10-25 bucks a piece.

Then maybe $100-$200 for fleas and heartworm.
