    Strange files beginning $ in Windows folder
    Can anyone explain why all of a sudden I have about 50 or so hidden files starting $MSI31 uninstall_etc , &NTServicePackUninstall$, $UninstallKB824146$, etc etc and also about 30 Windows Media profile files starting WMPrffor(etc).prx located in my Windows folder. I know they're hidden files but I still don't remember noticing them before. Can I delete these files? Thanks

    A Mackay

    $ files
    Hi,
    As posted in another category, the $ sign files are "junk files", placed there by programs, during install or uninstall. They can be deleted.
    I am not sure about the other .prx files.

    You could do some research on google.com; and find some links pertaining to them.
    Best wishes,

    I would not delete any hidden files related to Windows Media Player... unless you typically use another program for media.

    If you do, then uninstall WMP altogether.

    Yes, I wouldn't suggest getting rid of them... usually they are probably only a few kilobytes or even bytes and do not take up very much space anyway
