    Attic lighting problems
We are moving into a new home this week. The attic has been finished and we are putting our 8, 5, and 3 year old sons up there with three beds. It's a great area for kids and we've painted it very colorful (yellow walls on top, red walls on bottom, and cookie monster blue carpet. The bedding and accessories will pull in all of these colors.:)

Our problem is that it's turning out to be a very dark room. There is one small area near the staircase with a ceiling fan/light. It only lights that small area of the room. The walls come down to a very low slope (so low that we can't even put lamps on the nightstands). The room is very fun but the dim lighting is really taking away from the colors.

At this time, we can't afford to have lights put into the ceiling and we're concerned with placing lamps on the floor because of the safety of the children. However, we want the room well-lit.

Do you have any ideas that would be easy, inexpensive, and safe?

Don't know if skylights an option. What is the height at the peak? Rope lights? They also have solid NEON colors rope light.
If enough height, maybe you could have 3 2 bulb weatherproof fluorescent fixtures, The ones with the Tough
Clear plastic, and 6 clips. One over each area, so they can read. 3 Gang with switches nice. Pull Chain off each
    Cheaper, easier, faster.

Since money is an issue now, how about getting those desk lights with the clamps? Depending on the beds they could be clamped to the headboards and used in the individual spots. They could keep these even after you have more lighting installed in the ceiling.
