    You wish to remove the diverter stem and washer assembly,(see image).
    Remove the knob and chrome escutcheon plate. The big nut's a bonnet packing nut. Unscrew it and back the assembly out counterclockwise.

    How do I remove the center stem of asyco shower mixer. Speedball, I saw your response. Many times the tub wrench does not work. I carry a 6 point 1/2" drive deep well socket for this. Sayco is cool, you don't have to remove the trim, only the handle.
