97 Mustang V6 Odometer not working
My odometer and trip have stopped working but Speedometer seems to be fine. I replaced the VSS because I tested it with what I know now to be a bad Volt Meter. My Cruise stopped working at around the same time but have no idea if it is related or not. I have seen the fuse testing techniques posted by txgreasemonkey and will be trying those today. Just wanted to see if anyone else has advice on this issue.

    Thanks

Are you experienced in this type of work? Because I am sure that your local motor repair shop won't charge you that much because it might be a lose cable or small problem!

In your situation, check items in this order:

    . Odometer/Trip Meter
    . Printed circuit board
. Odometer connector at printed circuit board

So with the confidence I gathered from others, I disassembled my instrument cluster today. I am happy to report that the Odometer of the 1997 Mustangs are still mechanical and the gear that turns the dial was broken. In fact it was crumbling as I was trying to remove it. Ford WILL NOT sell just this one gear but for $48.00 (less then half the cost of a rebuilt Instrument Cluster) I ordered a new gear online. This repair has taken some time and I recommend proceeding very slowly because the circuit board and the connectors are very delicate, and one wrong move could cost hundreds of dollars.
