    Allowances in 2007 (J1 / L2 visa holder)
    Hi,

How many allowances may I claim in 2007?

I am a J1 visa holder till October 31, 2007. Single, no kids, living in NYC.
    Starting November 1, 2007, I will have a L1 visa.

    For 2006 and at the moment, I think I claim/ed 3 allowances - at least my 2006 W-2 says:
    - Federal Withholding Exemptions S 3
    - NY Withholding Exemptions S 3

BTW, in case this was and is incorrect, does this cause any issue?

    Thanks for help!

    Best,

    Kolja

    Three allowances are fine.

You may end up paying a little bit come tax return time, but it will NOT be too much.

Remember that ANY refund is BAD, because a refund is an interest-free loan to the government.
